(1) Why are measurements made using footsteps not always the same?
Answer: The length of a footstep varies according to a person’s age and body size. Therefore, different people may obtain different measurements.
(2) What is standard measurement?
Answer: A system in which everyone uses a fixed and uniform unit so that the measurement remains the same regardless of who measures it is called standard measurement.
(3) Why must an object be in direct contact with the ruler?
Answer: Direct contact allows the object’s edges to align properly with the ruler markings and helps us obtain its accurate length.
(4) What is the function of the liquid inside a laboratory thermometer?
Answer: When the bulb receives heat, the mercury or coloured alcohol expands and rises through the capillary tube. Its stabilized level indicates the temperature.

(1) A flexible measuring tape is used for a curved surface.
Answer: A flexible tape can bend and follow the complete curved surface of an object. A rigid ruler cannot follow such a curve accurately.
(2) A thermometer is required for accurate temperature.
Answer: The sensation of hotness or coldness can vary from person to person. A thermometer provides an exact temperature reading.
(3) The thermometer bulb must not touch the container.
Answer: If the bulb touches the bottom or sides, it may measure the temperature of the container instead of only the substance. This can give an inaccurate reading.

Answer: The two mistakes are:
